How to heat a pool (without a heater)!

    By Spencer
Ahhhh, a heated pool. There’s nothing quite as glorious as taking confidence in knowing that when you plunge into your pool you’re not transforming into a polar bear. What? You mean that jumping into an unexpectedly cold pool wasn’t the experience you were going for? How about spending oh-too-long easing your way into liquid frost on a hot summer day. Wouldn’t it be nice to not only be able to enter your pool immediately, without the shock of the instant temperature change to your body, but also extend the swim season year after year? Sure would! While a pool heater is the most efficient method for scoring a warm watered pool, there are other routes you can take to help heat up your pool and keep it open for a longer season.

Chlorine vs. Saltwater vs. Mineral System Pool Sanitizers: The Best Path to a Crystal-Clear Pool

    By Kathy
When it comes to pool sanitation systems, there are quite a few options available. The most popular are traditional chlorine and saltwater systems, and mineral systems. But what are the differences between chlorine, saltwater and mineral swimming pools? Does one keep the water cleaner than another? What's better for your pool? What's better for your skin and hair? Which is the most cost-effective? Of course, if there were just one perfect pool sanitizing system, there wouldn't be so many to choose from. But, like most aspects in building a pool, saltwater, chlorine and mineral systems all have their own sets of pros and cons - and which you choose will ultimately be up to what you value as most important.

What Size Pump Should I Get for My Pool?

    By Laci
If you're looking to build a new pool or simply looking to replace a pool pump you may find yourself asking, "Is a larger horsepower (HP) pool pump always better". PRO TIP: No matter which type of pump you choose, you’ll want to make sure you properly select the correct pump and filter combination. The pump needs to be sized appropriately compared to the filter’s flow rate. Choosing a pump with a higher flow rate than the filter will put strain on both the pump and filter, reducing life and efficiency of each. This means that you would not want to choose a pump designed to be used with 2" plumbing piece, and then use a filter designed to be used with 1 1/2" plumbing piece. Proper pairing of these two units is essential for a pleasant pool experience. For example: √ If choosing a pump with a 1-1/2” inlet/outlet, you should choose a filter with a 1-1/2” inlet/outlet as well. However, a pump with a 1-1/2” inlet/outlet can work with a filter with a 2” inlet/outlet if needed to. X You would not want to attempt to use a pump with 2” inlet/outlet with a filter that has a 1-1/2” inlet/outlet as they would not be sized correctly or efficient when used together. You can also learn more about Single Speed and Variable Speed Pumps Here! While outside of this simple yet extremely import we get asked a lot about what HP a pump should be. That being said, it's important to know that pool pumps should really be rated by the gallons per minute of water flow instead of the motor's HP.
