How to cool your swimming pool water temperature

A popular question pool companies often get asked from swimming pool owners in the heat of summer is  "How can I cool down my pool water?"  Below are a few suggestions to be considered:

GOT ICE??

USE ICE:  This quick fix is one of the fastest -yet impractical- ways of cooling down your pool water in a pinch.  If it is feasible to obtain large quantities of ice, gently place ice into the shallow end of your swimming pool in bulk for that instant effect.  Using this method would be more effective for above ground and smaller inground pools.  Don't forget to top your drink cooler off with any extra.

PARTIALLY DRAIN AND REFILL:  Depending on your water source, another effective option is to partially drain and refill your swimming pool.  If your water source is colder than the pool water, it will be effective in lowering pool water temperature rapidly.  Do not forget to test and rebalance your water chemistry after refilling.  On the downside, this technique will cause a spike in your water bill.  Be sure to check water conservation guidelines in your area.

MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO LANDSCAPE:  A swimming pool will heat up quickly if the surrounding landscape blocks the air movement across the swimming pool.  Make some adjustments in the landscape if thick bushes and plants act as a barrier to the natural airflow over the swimming pool.  If feasible, plant a shade tree (or place large potted trees) specifically on the west side of your pool to block out some scorching late afternoon sunlight.  Make sure to leave the base of the tree free from other plants and bushes to allow airflow under the shade of the tree.  Proper airflow helps cool the pool quickly and efficiently.

SHADE SAILS:  If you find it is not feasible to alter your landscaping, you can purchase and install shade sails over or around your swimming pool area.  Shade sails cover a large area and are easy to install.  *Purchase Shade Escapes by Tara

INSTALL WATER FEATURES:  Water features are a fun-- but more expensive-- way to keep your water temperature at a cool and comfortable level.  Water features cool the water by increasing air exposure, thus amplifying the rate of evaporative cooling.  If you have some play in your budget, purchasing water features for your swimming pool is a great way to keep summer swimming more enjoyable.  Examples of some water features:

Water fountain (floating)
Waterfall
Deck jets
Bubblers
Slide

Adopting one or more of the suggested ways listed above can go a long way in keeping your pool water refreshing & enjoyable and significantly cooler throughout the entire summer.  HAPPY SWIMMING!  STAY COOL 😎
